1-13-22 THOUGHTS
When we look at David’s life, we see a great king who was intimately acquainted with sorrow and grief and fear. I believe his good heart subjected him to deeper sessions of thought and pain than most endure? I am so glad that David wrote, and the God preserved what he wrote for us! So often his words are what I need. They provide comfort and perspective when I have none. I remember David fleeing from Saul for his life, and later from Absalom his own son. I remember David in the land of the Philistines with spittle on his beard pretending to be insane.
My brothers and sisters, may we do our best learning in troubled times. They will come often!
Ps 116:1-19 I love the LORD, because He hears My voice and my supplications. 2 Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live. 3 The cords of death encompassed me And the terrors of Sheol came upon me; I found distress and sorrow. 4 Then I called upon the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I beseech You, save my life!" 5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate. 6 The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me. 7 Return to your rest, O my soul, For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. 8 For You have rescued my soul from death, My eyes from tears, My feet from stumbling. 9 I shall walk before the LORD In the land of the living. 10 I believed when I said, "I am greatly afflicted." 11 I said in my alarm, "All men are liars." 12 What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me? 13 I shall lift up the cup of salvation And call upon the name of the LORD. 14 I shall pay my vows to the LORD, Oh may it be in the presence of all His people. 15 Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His godly ones. 16 O LORD, surely I am Your servant, I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid, You have loosed my bonds. 17 To You I shall offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving, And call upon the name of the LORD. 18 I shall pay my vows to the LORD, Oh may it be in the presence of all His people, 19 In the courts of the LORD’S house, In the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD!
Eccl 7:2-5 It is better to go to a house of mourning Than to go to a house of feasting, Because that is the end of every man, And the living takes it to heart. 3 Sorrow is better than laughter, For when a face is sad a heart may be happy. 4 The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning, While the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure. 5 It is better to listen to the rebuke of a wise man Than for one to listen to the song of fools.
Of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ it is said...
Heb 5:7-9 In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. 9 And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,
My Prayer:
Deliver us from troubled times O Lord, and comfort and strengthen us in the midst of them. May we labor to learn as we endure these times. Teach us to flee to You as the Rock of our salvation. Help our souls to return to your rest. You are compassionate O God, preserve us to live for you. We call upon your majestic name O God. In the name of Jesus Amen
